Now a full-time biology lecturer.

Introduction
This is the professional website for Julia Heathcote, a lecturer in biology and science.
I currently teach at a large further education college in London, where I am part of a Grade 2 science department. I teach A-Level and GCSE Biology, and BTEC Applied Science at levels 1-3. I teach classes in forensic science, human physiology, ecology and evolution, and perceptions of science. I am particularly keen to teach my students about fieldwork techniques and science as an active, practical subject.
I take a particular interest in science communication and the scientific literacy of the general public, and closely follow the actions of the Government Office for Science (within DBIS) and the Department for Education. I am also interested in gender equality and the prevention of sexual harassment in academia, and I am available for comment on these issues via The Femilist. For two years I have represented students and postdocs within the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology as Chair of the Student and Postdoc Liaison Committee.
I am married to the ever-patient Paul, who has accepted into his life the sheer volume of dinosaur-themed rubbish, and who pretends not to mind me keeping 150 primitive and/or dangerous plants in pots outside the back door. We have a one-eyed leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularis) called Dooya.
